========================================================== Moacir Santos, at 80, dies in Los Angeles Brazilian sax-player and arranger Moacir Santos died Sunday, Aug 5th in Los Angeles where he lived since the late sixties working as a soundtrack composer. In the early sixties, still in Brazil, he was the music teacher of Sergio Mendes, Roberto Menescal, Nara Leão and other bossa nova artists. His first LP titled "Coisas" was released in 1965 by FORMA record label. All his Lps are highly regarded and command very high prices in the current market, often reaching hundreds of dollars. He was also a distinguished bossa nova composer, most of his songs were co-written with Vinicius de Moraes and his best known song is "Nãna". |
